Outsiders and the Kingdom Feast

In our summer sermon series, Gracious Hospitality, we are looking at some of the meals Jesus ate that are recorded in Luke’s Gospel. As we look at them, we find Jesus often reveals to us who God is over the course of a meal. He uses one of our most basic practices (a meal) as an opportunity for divine revelation.

The meals Jesus shared were always occasions for him to demonstrate revolutionary love, radical grace, and kingdom mission. In fact, in Luke 14, Jesus even compares the kingdom of heaven to a lavish banquet feast to which everyone is invited, regardless of merit, status or religious standing. In one simple analogy, He makes a powerful claim about the kingdom of God that was completely contrary to what the people of his day expected. And, most likely, contrary to our expectations as well.

Listen to guest speaker Tony Merida’s sermon, Outsiders and the Kingdom Feast, from week three in our series to hear more about Jesus’ grace toward sinners and the place he has prepared at his table for those who trust in him.
