Church Planting Update: Grace Church Leith

As we lead up to Church Planting Sunday at Vintage in a few weeks, we wanted to share some of the beauty that has resulted from church planting being a critical part of our DNA. Look for another post next week, and join us on Church Planting Sunday for more information and ways that you can get involved through prayer and giving. Church Planting Sunday is Jan. 31 at Downtown and Midtown and Feb. 7 at Durham.

Vintage Church began as a church plant just over thirteen years ago. Like the majority of church plants, we struggled early on, doing all we could to survive, learn, and grow. God’s grace was evident through the prayer and financial support of another church, and we survived those early years of struggle. At a certain point we were able to move from simply surviving to seeing fruit from our labors, and we stood in awe as many lives in our city were impacted beyond the walls of Sunday gatherings. With such an undeniable picture of the power and plan of the local church, both from the New Testament and our own experience, it’s natural that we would put great effort into planting churches.

For the past five years, Vintage has supported Grace Church Leith in Scotland. We’ve prayed for them regularly, offered coaching and encouragement, and given financial support. Like Vintage, they have not only survived but have seen fruit in the form of changed lives and an undeniable impact on the city around them. Hearing of the gospel’s impact through Grace Church has been an encouragement to us at Vintage, and we have a recent example of how the generosity of people in Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina has impacted people globally.

Athole Rennie, Grace Church Leith’s lead pastor, preached on Philippians 4:10-23 on November 29, 2015. He shared about the importance of gospel partnerships in the growth of their church. Athole specifically mentioned Vintage’s generosity, both the monthly support, which allows Grace Church Leith to employ an administrative assistant, and the offering we collected to support the work they are doing to meet needs during the Syrian refugee crisis.

Vintage has always been unapologetically committed to church planting. Its our joy to share this brief clip with you, as it reminds us of the impact we have in spreading the gospel throughout the world.
